Royal Mail readies Monty Python stamps

“This stamp collection honours a body ofwork that has shaped the comedic landscape for nearly six decades,” said David Gold, Director of External Affairs and Policy at Royal Mail.

Royal Mail is launching a set of 10 stamps paying tribute to Monty Python.

The main set of six stamps celebrates characters and sketches from Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Each stamp features a montage of scenes and cut-out illustrations, including the Spanish Inquisition, the Lumberjack Song, the Dead Parrot Sketch, Nudge Nudge and Spam.

To mark 50 years of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Royal Mail is also launch a further four stamps – presented in a miniature sheet.

“Very glad to share a stamp with the nude organist!” said Monty Python’s own Sir Michael Palin.

David Gold, Director of External Affairs and Policy at Royal Mail, added: “Monty Python has left an indelible mark on global comedy, all while remaining unmistakably British at its core. From their groundbreaking television debut to a string of iconic films, this stamp collection honours a body ofwork that has shaped the comedic landscape for nearly six decades.”

The stamps, and a range of collectible products, are available to pre-order at www.royalmail.com/montypython. The stamps go on general sale from August 14th.
