Brain Games has developed a board game based on Flow, an animated movie which scooped an Academy Award at this year’s Oscars.

Brought to the UK by Hachette Boardgames UK, the Flow board game arrives on March 15th and sees players tasked with guiding the film’s displaced animals to safety by placing tiles to create escape routes – all while contending with an ever-rising flood.

Every minute, the game pauses and a tidal wave destroys some of the tiles that players have placed, making it a challenging race against time.

“The story of Flow is a timely one with lessons for future generations,” says Rob Trounce, Head of Marketing at Hachette Boardgames UK.

“Board games can be an ideal way to help them engage with those lessons in a new and exciting way – one in which kids work together to solve problems, fostering the very skills they need to hopefully solve the biggest ones of their generation. We’re thrilled with the success of this film, and we’re honoured to be launching its board game counterpart.”

Hachette Boardgames UK has teamed up with No Loading Games to bring Gwent to the UK in Q3 2025.

The game – based on the card game from The Witcher world – is one of several No Loading Games titles that Hachette will be bringing to the UK. Another is an Asterix title launching in early 2025.

Gwent, the card game from The Witcher world, is coming to UK tabletops in Q3 2025 after 10 years of demand.

It forms part of a new partnership between Hachette Boardgames UK and a brand new publisher, No Loading Games, whose focus is on bringing the biggest entertainment brands to tabletops. They will be collaborating to bring several other high-profile licenses to UK gamers, including Asterix in early 2025.

Gwent became popular enough as a ‘game within a game’ that it spawned spin-off titles like The Witcher: Thronebreaker, as well as a Gwent app which has reached over five million players on Android alone.

The card game version comes with over 400 cards and a playmat, replicating the full experience of the game from within The Witcher 3.

“Gwent is the biggest ‘game within a game’ in media history,” said Rob Trounce, Marketing Manager for Hachette Boardgames UK.

“After a 10 year wait, we are proud to be working alongside No Loading Games to bring this beloved game to tabletops in a stunning package… Whether it’s a souvenir for fans of Geralt and his adventures, or a game for competitive card game enthusiasts, Gwent will be one of the hottest games of 2025.”

Gwent will be available to UK retailers in Q3 2025, and Hachette Boardgames UK are now taking preorders.

Hachette Boardgames UK is bringing MNKY Entertainment’s Wednesday: Creatures and Outcasts card game to the UK in September.

Designed by René Groen, the game – inspired by the Netflix show – sees players play cards on a stack where each card must be higher than the previous one. The goal is to be the first to get rid of all your cards. Any cards left in your hand at the end of a round count as penalty points.

The twist is that there is a second stack of cards featuring characters from the Wednesday TV series. As they are brought into play, they introduce unexpected changes to the game and radically alter the rules. After five rounds, the player with the best score wins.

“The inimitable world of Wednesday is brought to life in this lightning-fast card game that’s set to be a hit with everyone, from normies to freaks and outcasts,” said Rob Trounce of Hachette Boardgames UK.

“The gameplay is tactical and smart and full of clever nods towards the characters and story of the show. We can’t wait to see this one hit tables later this year, and it’s been a smash hit in all of our demo sessions so far.”
